There will be a new state champion in Minnesota Class C State Amateur baseball.  The Jordan Brewers were defeated 7-5 Saturday in Springfield by the Fairmont Martins.

The Martins were outhit 12-11 but played error free ball while the Brewers had 2 mistakes in the field.

Jordan starting pitcher Nate Beckman stroked a home run and single with 3 RBI while throwing the first 8 2/3 innings.  He gave up 11 hits, 5 earned runs, struck out 5, walked 0, hit two batters while taking the loss.  Draftee from Belle Plaine Derek Dahlke intentionally walked a batter before recording the last out in the top of the 9th.

Fairmont draftee from Windom Collin Lovell scattered 11 hits over 8 innings to get the win.  Lovell struck out 7, walked 2 while allowing 2 earned runs.  Adam Schmidt got the save while allowing 1 hit, striking out 2 in the bottom of the 9th.

The top four hitters in the batting order for the Martins all had multiple hit days.  Totaling 10 of their 11 hits.  The top 3 batters each had doubles.  The two, three, four hitters each collected 2 RBI.  Those top four in order, Luke Becker, Jack Waletich, Derek Shoen and Jon Traetow.

Fairmont never trailed in the game taking a 2-1 lead in the first inning then adding a run in the third and 2 runs in the 5th before getting two needed runs in the 9th.

The Brewers scored 3 runs in the bottom of the final inning to make things interesting.

Fairmont plays Noon today in Springfield against a Buffalo team coming off a 14-3 eight inning victory over Foley.

The St. Patrick Irish are the only Region 3 team remaining in the single elimination tournament.  The regular season DRS (Dakota-Rice-Scott) League champions have outscored their 3 opponents thus far 31-6.

The Irish had two 6 run innings and one 4 run inning in their 16-4 eight inning victory over the Carver Black Sox Saturday in Milroy.  Zach Seurer went the distance on the hill with 6 strikeouts, 3 walks, 1 hit batter while giving up 7 hits, 3 earned runs.

St. Patrick had 3 errors, Carver 4 in the contest.

The Irish were the visiting team and scored 6 runs in the first, 6 runs in the third and 4 runs in the 8th inning to put an exclamation point on their victory.

Outfielder Kyle Rhodus led the way with 4 hits including a double and RBI.  Bryce Simon had a 2 run double.  Dom Deluca cracked 3 hits for 2 RBI.  Seth Ambroz had 3 hits, scored 2 runs.  Zak Endres added 3 RBI.

Carver used all three of their draftee pitchers and a total of five arms to try to hold down the hot hitting St. Patrick team. Mark Ulrich started the game lasting 2/3 of an inning.  He walked 4, gave up 2 hits but no earned runs while St. Patrick scored six times.  Ulrich did have a strikeout.

Draftee Torvin Urdahl of Cologne went two innings with 8 hits allowed, 6 runs, 3 earned, struck out 1 and walked 2.  Jacob Booden threw 4 1/3 innings of shutout ball with 7 strikeouts, 0 walks, 4 hits allowed.

Draftee Brady Jenkins of Winsted got 2/3 of an inning of work giving up 2 hits, 4 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks one intentional.  Draftee Will Hoernemann of Hamburg pitched to the final batter for St. Patrick in the top of the 8th inning.

The Irish will play the Bluffton Braves in Milroy at Noon today in hopes of advancing to this evening's 6:00 p.m. semi-final game in Milroy.

At 3:00 p.m. today in Springfield the Cold Spring Rockies tangle with the Bemidji Blue Ox who eliminated the Prior Lake Mudcats from the tournament in a 8-1 game.

The 3:00 p.m. game today in Milroy features the Bird Island Bullfrogs and the Young America Cardinals who blanked the Union Hill Bulldogs in their last game.

The state championship game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Monday in Springfield.

In the Union Hill loss a very good hitting Bulldogs team had just two hits and committed 4 errors while Young America cranked out 10 hits in the 6-0 game.  Young America was the home team scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back.

They added solo runs in the 5th and 6th, 2 runs in the 7th.

The only two Union Hill players with hits were Jacob Becker and Danny Beckius.  Young America starting pitcher Dillon Whittaker allowed those hits over 8 innings.  Striking out 8, walking 3, hitting a batter.  Hayden Meyer faced the minimum in a perfect 9th inning.

Prior Lake is the team that eliminated Faribault a game away from a state berth this year.  They had a 1-1 game going into the bottom of the 5th inning at Milroy against Bemidji.

The Blue Ox erupted for 4 runs there and added 3 runs in 7th inning of their 8-1 win over the Mudcats.  Bemidji had 12 hits, Prior Lake 9 hits.

The Mudcats had 2 errors, Blue Ox 1 error in the game.

Alex Wattermann and Johnny Houston had multiple hits for Prior Lake.  Wattermann with 3, Houston 2.  The Mudcats had all singles in the contest while Bemidji had a home run and two doubles.

Bemidji draftee Ethan Opsahl of Ada went the distance on the mound for the win.  Opsahl allowed 9 hits over 9 innings, fanning 4, walking 1 and hitting a batter.
