The Chanhassen Red Birds defeated the Moorhead Brewers 4-2 Friday night in Shakopee to get a day off before playing for their third straight state Class B State Amateur Baseball title.

The Brewers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning.  The Red Birds scored 2 runs in the third and added a run in the 6th and run in the 8th inning before Moorhead added a lone run in the 9th.

Chanhassen had 9 hits, Moorhead 5 hits in the game.  The Brewers committed 2 errors, Red Birds had 1.  Four Chanhassen players had 2 hits each.  Brandon Arnold, Aaron Kloeppner, Aaron Pfaff and Nick Smith.

Lead-off hitter Arnold scored two runs, had an RBI.  #3 hitter Hoffman got a hit and 2 RBI.

John Straka scattered 5 hits while going the distance for the Red Birds.  He struck out 8, walked 2.  Both runs allowed were earned.

David Ernst started the game for Moorhead throwing the first 5 1/3 innings with 7 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned.  He struck out 5, walked 4.  Cole Christensen pitched the final 2 2/3 innings with 2 hits given up, 1 earned run, 2 strikeouts, 1 walk.

Second baseman Brandt Kolpack cracked 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Brewers.

Moorhead plays against the winner of the Miesville versus Cold Spring 1:00 p.m. game today at 4:00 p.m. The winner comes back tomorrow to face Chanhassen in need of two wins for the title.
