Spring Weight Restrictions Monday

This is my first sure sign of spring. Thursday afternoon I received a news release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation. " The Minnesota Department of Transportation will end winter load increases in the south, southeast and metro frost zones and start spring weight restrictions in the southeast, south and metro frost zones on Monday, March 5, 2018." The weather will determine when the spring weight restrictions will be removed.

We all like to drive on good roads so it is important we pay attention to the weight restrictions. Roads are more vulnerable when the frost is coming out of the ground and heavy loads can do a lot of damage. If you are planning your route looking for 10 ton roads go to the web site: mndot.gov/loadlimits. Another reason to pay attention to weight restrictions is that I have heard "overweight tickets" especially during spring weight restrictions are very painful! Fortunately I do not have any experience with over weight tickets!
