The Freeborn Area Soil Health Team will be sponsoring a 2019 Bus Tour showcasing 3 different experience levels of farmers working to improve their soil health by reducing tillage and planting cover crops. The tour will be on Saturday September 7, 2019 from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. Lunch will be provided from Casey's. The 2019 Bus Tour will leave the Ellendale gas station at 7:30. The first stop will be at the Jim Nash farm. Jim is in the first year of transitioning from conventional tillage to strip till/no till and using cover crops. The second stop will be at Bob Wayne and Lisa Dunn. They are in their fourth year of transitioning from conventional tillage to strip till no till and using cover crops. The third stop will be at the Mark Ditllevson farm. Mark's entire farm was ridge tilled from 1987 to 2014. The farm has been no tilled since 2014. Cover crops have been used since 2010.
