The University of Minnesota Extension Service will be hosting two Small Grains Workshops in our listening area this week. The workshops will focus on production agronomics, variety selection and economics. There will also be an open-forum discussion for related topics and on-farm experiences. The workshops are sponsored by the Minnesota Wheat Research and Promotion Council. Registration is free and includes lunch. For meal planning send an email to: gople007@umn.edu.

One of the workshops will be in Rochester on Monday February 17, 2020 in Rochester at the Heintz Center. There will be a Private Pesticide Applicator Training from 9:00 to 12:30 pm and the Small Grains Workshop will be from 12:30 to 4:00 pm. Then on Tuesday February 18, 2020 the Small Grains Workshop will be in the 4-H Building on the Le Sueur County Fairgrounds in Le Center from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

I and many other farmers do not have any experience growing small grains. Farmers are always looking for another crop to break up the corn soybean rotation. Maybe a few acres of small grains would work, especially if you would like to do some tiling or need a place to haul manure later in the summer?
