The University of Minnesota Extension Service will be hosting an eight week Small Farm Start Up School this October through the middle of December. Many times families have had a dream of moving out into the country on an acreage. When they have the opportunity to move they find out they do not know a lot about taking care of an acreage compared to living in a city!

Many times they are surprised they have a septic system and well to maintain. The township road may be a little dusty and not get plowed as soon as the major street they used to live on. Then there are local and state regulations to be aware of not to mention raising a few head of livestock or crops for Farmers Markets.

"The small farm start-up workshop series will provide you with a solid background in all aspects of small farm operation and management. We offer basic agricultural information to help you make the correct farm purchase for starting or expanding a small farm or buying an acreage.  This course will help you be a good steward of your land and prepare you for more advanced learning opportunities."

There is a cost of $249 which covers two people from one farm. I saw this notice in Extension Educator in Rice and Steel County Claire LaCanne's Monthly Ag Update. So, if you would like more information or to register Contact Extension Educator Claire LaCanne at the Rice of Steele County Extension office.
