Slinger Hat Trick, Dolter Shutout Lead to Faribault Victory

The Faribault Falcons boys hockey team felt right at home in the National Sports Center in Blaine tonight, winning their first game 6-0 in the Open Division of the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic.  The Falcons defeated Cambridge-Isanti by scoring two goals in each period.

Senior goalie Jake Dolter had 33 saves with Faribault outshooting the Bluejackets 42-33.  It was Dolter’s second shutout in a row.  Last Friday he blanked Rochester Lourdes. Sophomore Zack Slinger had a goal each period.  Senior Leighton Weasler also had 4 assists in the game.   It didn’t take long for Slinger bury the biscuit in the basket.  1:39 into the game Slinger scored with assists to senior Leighton Weasler and Blake Vinar (6).

13:44 of first period junor Zach Siegert (13) scored with Weasler collecting another assist.

5:28 into the second period Slinger was assisted by Weasler.  At 11:30 sophomore Grady Goodwin (5) notched a goal with assists to Brody Pavel (7) and junior Kory Johnson.

4:58 of third period Slinger (8) completed his hat trick assisted by junior Lucas Linneman (5).  The final goal came off the stick of junior Jordan Nawrocki (4).

Nawrocki told us on the Faribault Coaches Show at Bashers/Faribowl Center last Saturday the chemistry of this team continues to get better.

Faribault had 5 penalties whistled against them in the game, Cambridge-Isanti 2.

The BlueJackets had two goalies split time between the pipes.  Faribault now 7-2, has four players with double digit points.  Cambridge-Isanti fell to 2-8, plays Luverne 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The Falcons go up against the Becker/Big Lake Eagles 1-7 at 3:30 p.m. Friday.  They will also play the Luverne Cardinals 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Blaine.
