National Weather Service-Twin Cities

I am sure you heard about the Derecho wind that hit Iowa and caused extensive damage to crops and grain systems. Well, later on today I hope it will not be our turn. The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the forecast for later today and this evening to Enhanced across our region. Severe thunderstorms, hail over 2 inches, winds in excess of 60 miles an hour and tornadoes are possible.

If you have not signed up for your Community or Counties Emergency notification system maybe you should today! You can receive a notification of severe weather as a text message, phone call or email. In addition stay tuned to KDHL for special announcements from the National Weather Service!

Then again, maybe we have already taken our turn at getting hit with really severe weather? It will be 3 years ago in September Rice County was hit by severe thunderstorms and a number of tornadoes that cause extensive damage.
