See You at Farmfest

Farmfest is coming up next week Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next to the Gilfillan Estate near Red Wood Falls. It is going to be a big event with all the exhibits, field demonstrations and forums in the Wick Forum Building. Even though the elections are about 16 months away it feels like an election year. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue will be there and Governor Tim Walz. Governor Walz will be at Farmfest for the Farm Family of the Year program Thursday afternoon.

One of the forums in the Wick Building will be on African Swine Fever that has devastated the hog herd in China and some other countries. It is virtually 100 percent fatal to pigs but fortunately has no impact on humans of food safety. It would be a disaster if it would spread to North America. I have the privilege of moderating that forum. In addition I have again been asked to help with the University of Minnesota Farm Family of the year program the last afternoon at Farmfest.
