Scotty McCreery is back on the road, and the 23-year-old kicked off his 2017 tour by recording a performance video for “Five More Minutes” at the legendary Billy Bob’s Texas.

The video, filmed in late January before McCreery’s show at the Fort Worth, Texas venue, features him and two band members (Dylan Rosson and Jeffrey Harper) performing an acoustic version of the song.

During a recent performance at the Grand Ole Opry, McCreery shared that “Five More Minutes” was inspired by the passing of his grandfather.

“He’s never heard this song, but I know he’s watching and very proud of me, the fact that I’m at the Grand Ole Opry tonight,” McCreery said. Bill McCreery, who was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Civil Service, died at the age of 86 in January 2015.

The overall theme of the song isn’t about McCreery’s grandfather or even death; it’s just about having a little more time. McCreery sings in the chorus:

The time rolls by, the clock don’t stop / I wish I had a few more drops of the good stuff, the good times / Aww, but they just keep on flying / Right on by like it ain’t nothing / I wish I had me a pause button / Moments like those, Lord knows I get it / Give myself five more minutes.

Though McCreery’s grandfather does get a serious mention in the final verse, the rest of the song features lyrics about ending a high school football career and spending quality time on a girl’s doorstep -- all scenarios in which McCreery wishes he could have just five more minutes.

The Texas show became extra special for McCreery when he was surprised by country icon Randy Travis, who watched the entire show with his wife and family on the side of the stage that evening. McCreery described it as “one of the coolest moments of my career.”

McCreery’s tour continues in February with stops in Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia and Hawaii.
