Red Wing, MN (KROC-AM News) - A person found in a house that caught fire in Red Wing Sunday was later pronounced dead.

Red Wing fire crews were called to a residence in the 1200 block of Phelps St. just after 8:00 AM. They were told there was a possibility the home was still occupied.

Crews found flames at the front porch and in the living room area with heavy smoke throughout the first and second floors. Within minutes of arriving on scene and during the primary search, a victim was located on the first floor and removed. Paramedics immediately started CPR and transported the victim to Red Wing Mayo hospital where the person was pronounced deceased.

The cause of death and circumstances surrounding this incident are undetermined at this time. The investigation is being conducted by the State Fire Marshal along with the Red Wing Police Department and is ongoing.

This was the first fatal fire in Red Wing in several years.
