The Red Wing Wingers outdistanced the competition at Eastwood Golf in Rochester today by 9 strokes to capture the Section 1AA title and a berth into the state meet next week in Jordan at Ridges at Sand Creek.  The Wingers won with a 629 two day 36 hole score and Lake City came in second with a 638.  Rochester Lourdes had a 648 and Stewartville a 665.

Junior Cecil Belisle of Red Wing was medalist with a 141, 5 shots better than Rochester Lourdes junior Kyle Hickey.  The Wingers placed three golfers in the top ten. Red Wing joins Northfield as Big Nine teams participating at boys state tournaments next week.  There are three classes in golf and the Big Nine has no Class A teams so they qualify as many teams as possible to get to state.

Other golfers who qualify to play individually at state include senior Hunter Fjerstad of Byron (placed 3rd), senior Carter Van Tassel of Stewartville (4th), senior Thomas Huettl of Lake City (5th), senior Luke Alexander of Rochester Lourdes (6th).

The State Tournament is Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
