Faribault Bethlehem Academy junior Khrstjan Peterson shot a final round 73 after his opening day 73 to win medalist honors during the Section 1A Boys Golf Tournament at Willow Creek in Rochester.  His margin of victory was 12 strokes ahead of senior Simon Broadwater of Kingsland High School.  Bethlehem Academy finished third as a team 20 strokes behind Section Champion Kingsland.

In addition to Peterson's consistent play Bethlehem Academy freshman Elliot Smith finished in ninth place while shaving seven strokes off his first round 93 with a score of 85 in the final round today.  The Cardinals were 11 strokes behind second place and defending Section Champion Blooming Prairie.  The lowest four scores are taken with up to six players participating from each school.

Kingsland's margin of victory over Blooming Prairie was 9 strokes.  They will represent Section 1 in the team portion of the Class A State Tournament on the Pebble Creek course at Becker next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Peterson will also advance to the State Tournament where he finished 7th a year ago and All-State status.  As a sophomore Peterson shot a two day total 157, seventeen strokes behind State Class A Medalist Tommy Braaten of Blooming Prairie.  Braaten graduated last spring.  Peterson had the third lowest score among underclassmen last year.

The other Bethlehem Academy scores used were a 99 carded by sophomore Ben Cohen and a 100 shot by freshman Brody Pavel.

Despite Braaten winning medalist honors last spring Blooming Prairie finished 7th among the 8 schools at the State Meet.  Mahnomen was the team Class A champion winning by 18 strokes over Lac Qui Parle Valley.
