The Annual Pet Parade in Faribault celebrates 81 years this summer and the date and theme have just been released!

The pet parade is one of Faribault's favorite traditions and this year's event will take place August 10. The theme is Tropical Delight.

Categories for the pet parade include cats, dogs, unusual animals, farm animals, horses, unusual pets, rabbits, costumes, clowns, wagons, bikes, scooters, roller-blades, carts, battery-powered vehicles and strollers. In the past, a first-, second- and third-place prize has been awarded for each category.

The parade route begins at Second Avenue Northwest from Ninth Street Northwest and goes to Central Park in Faribault. Line up and judging begins at 6PM and the parade starts at 7PM.

While the event is called the pet parade, you don't need a pet to participate. If you would like to create your own float for the parade, get creative and show up. If you have questions, call the Faribault Community Center at (507) 334-2064.

The pet parade is a well-known and loved tradition for people of all ages in Faribault, and the fact that is has been around for 81 years is very impressive. Mark your calendars and plan to attend the 81st annual Pet Parade in Faribault on Thursday, Aug. 10, starting at 7PM.

I've never created a float for the pet parade, but many of my friends and colleagues have fond memories that they tell of the event. And it seems that it's not just the parade itself they remember, but the fun they had brainstorming and creating their floats and costumes. Make some memories of your own, and take part in this fun Faribault tradition!
