The Rice County Soil and Water Conservation District will be hosting an open house for retiring supervisors Robert Duban and Gary Wagenbach. The open house will be next Wednesday, November 9, from 1:30-3PM at the Rice County SWCD, 1810 30th St. N.W., Faribault. This is, of course, the Rice County USDA Service Center, or what we commonly call the FSA Office. Duban has served for 22 years and Wagenbach for 18 years.

There is a small payment for attending a meeting, but really the county SWCD supervisors are volunteers. The supervisors set the conservation priorities for each county. An important new responsibility is setting guidelines for the new Buffer Law as it is implemented. The point is there is an election coming up and two people will be elected to take Duban's and Wagenbach's supervisor positions. In addition, every county will be holding supervisor elections.

The SWCD supervisor elections are way down on the voting ballet and, many times, voters know very little about people who are running. They have an important job, so maybe you should check who is running for SWCD supervisor in your county and talk with them before election day next Tuesday!
