Northfield Volleyball Season Ends in Section Final
The Northfield Raider volleyball team beat one Lakeville giant but couldn't beat another, falling in three sets to the Lakeville North Panthers on Saturday.
The Raiders defeated #3 rated Lakeville South in the semi-finals of the Section Tournament in four sets Thursday before going up against a focused #2 rated Lakeville North team and falling 3-0.
Scores were 25-16, 25-18, 25-23.
The Raiders finished their season with just three losses, two to Minnesota schools.
They ran the table in the Big Nine and didn't drop a single set going 33-0.
There were five seniors on this year's team. Annalee Olson-Sola, Mariah Feidt, Taylor Ernste, Brynne Gray and Hailey Mackenthun.
The Class 3A State Tournament has three teams from the South Suburban Conference in it. Eagan, Lakeville North and Prior Lake.
Defending State Champion and #1 rated Eagan has just one loss this season. They were defeated by Lakeville South. The Wildcats are 74-9 in sets.
Lakeville North has only two losses and they were both to Eagan. The Panthers are 74-12 in sets.
Prior Lake was ranked #6 in the final Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association (MVCA) poll and is 21-10 with a 56-38 set record.
On Thursday at 9:00 a.m. Eagan opens with unranked Forest Lake (21-8) and 60-26 in sets.
#4 seed and #5 ranked Hopkins (23-7) and 64-27 in sets meets #5 seed and #6 rated Prior Lake,
At 11:00 a.m. #2 seed Lakeville North will open with #7 rated Stillwater Area (22-8) and 66-27 in sets.
#3 seed and #4 ranked Champlin Park (27-4) and 73-15 in sets faces unrated Moorhead (21-9) and 62-28 in sets.
Semi-Finals are Thursday at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and the title match is 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
