Northfield Top Seed in Section 1A Boys Hockey

Section 1A coaches emailed in their section seeds Sunday morning and the Northfield Raiders are the top seed.

The Co-Big Nine Conference champions with Rochester John Marshall finished their regular season pulling into a tie with the Rockets after a 10-2 win over Faribault on Saturday night.

Northfield scored four goals in the first period and added five goals in the running time third period on senior night..

The top four teams in the section receive a bye and don't play until Thursday. The tournament opens Tuesday at the high seeds.

The quarterfinals are also at the high seed with the semifinals and championship at the Rochester Rec Center on February 20 and 24 respectively.

The Faribault Falcons were seeded 10th and travel to No. 7 Albert Lea on Tuesday night. The winner will play Thursday at Mankato West.

No. 3 seed Rochester Lourdes plays the winner of No. 6 Le Seuer-Henderson/St. Peter/Tri-City United and No. 11 Waseca. No. 4 seed Mankato East faces the winner of No. 5 Red Wing and No. 12 Winona.

No. 1 seed Northfield will play either No. 8 seed Austin or No. 9 seed La Crescent.

In Saturday's regular season finale, Northfield outshot Faribault 44-13 and finished their regular season 1-6 while Faribault ends their regular season with a 6-18-1 mark.
