The Northfield River Rats made the trip to Red Wing tonight and returned home 6-3 victors.  Jordi Vazquez went 4 for 4 at the plate to lead the offense. Kaed Rauk, Pete Hillmann and Chris Simon Garcia handled the pitching chores.

Gunnar Benson opened the game for Northfield with a triple.  Vazquez hit a single to score Benson.

Vazquez singled to open the third inning and was stranded there.

In the bottom of the third inning Red Wing amassed 4 hits and a walk while scoring 2 runs to take the lead.

In the top of the 5th inning Hillmann singled to start the inning.  Benson walked, Vazquez singled to load the bases.  Northfield tied the game when Hillmann stole home.  Benson was thrown out trying to take third base. Blake Mellgren singled.  Nolan Stepka then singled to score Vazquez.

Adam Wiese extended the inning with a RBI single.  Following a pitching change Rauk singled to load the bases.  Joey Auge walked for an RBI and loaded the bases.  A grounder to shortstop resulted in a force out at home.

The score was Northfield 6, Red Wing 2.

In the top of the 6th inning with one out Vazquez smacked another single to left field.  Vazquez then stole second base during a Mellgren at bat.   Vazquez then went to third base following an error.  Mellgren hit a fly ball to right field and Vazquez was thrown out at the plate following a tag up score attempt.

In the bottom of the 7th inning a single and walk started the inning for Red Wing. The River Rats brought in Simon-Garcia to pitch. Simon-Garcia slammed the door on Red Wing to improve their record to 9-2.

Northfield had 12 hits in the game and committed no errors.  Red Wing had 10 hits, 2 errors.

Northfield stole 4 bases in the game.  Rauk went the first 3 innings with 6 hits allowed, 2 earned runs. 2 walks, 2 strikeouts.  Hillmann worked the next three innings with 4 hits allowed, 1 earned run, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts.  Simon-Garcia retired all batters faced in the final inning.

Monday night Northfield scored a 13-3 six inning win over Austin in Northfield.  The River Rats are in New Prague Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. to end their regular season.
