On Tuesday the annual Northfield Hospital Auxiliary Book fair in it's 57th year, hit 1 million dollars in sales. The sale is in the Northfield Ice Arena. Over 65,000 items are available. According to the Northfield News, going into last night the sales were at $987,190 and since they had raised $66,000 last year they felt they would hit the million dollar mark this year.

Again according to the Northfield News the book fair started on a back porch in 1961. Then it moved to the Northwestern State Bank meeting room in 1962, then to the old Armory building in 1971 and finally to Northfield Ice Arena in 1983. The fair has grown each decade.

Over 500 volunteers are needed to put the event on every year.

They use proceeds to help fund Northfield Hospital.They every year give out out 10 $1,000 scholarships to local students in health-related fields. Other gifts include $100,000 for the Breast Care Center, $150,000 for the Cancer Care and Infusion Center (2011-16) and $60,000 for a wheelchair accessible van at the Long Term Care Center (2017-18).

• April 28: 8 a.m.–3 p.m. ($5 bag sale 8 a.m.–12:30 p.m.; free books 1 p.m.–3 p.m.)
