NHL Postpones 2021 Winter Classic: Was To Be Held at Target Field

The National Hockey League has announced that the 2021 Bridgestone Winter Classic, which was supposed to be held at Target Field in Minneapolis will not happen.

"Because of the uncertainty as to when we will be able to welcome our fans back to our games, we felt that the prudent decision at this time was to postpone these celebrations until 2022 when our fans should be able to enjoy and celebrate these tentpole events in-person, as they were always intended."

The news came yesterday as the NHL also announced that the 2021 All-Star game in Florida will not happen this year as well due to COVID-19 concerns. The upcoming Winter Classic was planned to be the first time the New Years Day game would appear in the State of Hockey as the Wild were planned to host Central Division rival, the St. Louis Blues. The League has full intentions of returning back to Minnesota for the Winter Classic and a later date as well as South Florida for the All Star Game.

The Winter Classic would have been the 2nd outdoor game in Minnesota Wild History and 1st Winter Classic. They have previously played a Coors Light Stadium Series game in 2016 at TCF Bank Stadium in a 6-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks in 2016.
