Early Friday morning a fire broke out in a barn in New Market Township in the area of East 260th Street and Xerxes Avenue. Sixty-five cows were lost in the blaze.

According to the Scott County Sheriff's Office, the fire broke out about 4:22AM. No one was hurt during the fire and no other buildings were damaged. The owners of the property were home at the time of the fire. The fire is under investigation but does not appear at this time to be suspicious.

The Elko-New Market, Lakeville, New Prague and Prior Lake fire departments assisted in putting the fire out. The Elko-New Market Police Department and Northfield Ambulance were also at the scene.
