National Coffee Day
Today is the observance of National Coffee Day. I am definitely not an "expert cupper" which is the term for a professional coffee taster. However, the first thing I do when I get to the studio around 4:30 am is make a pot of coffee! It does not matter what kind of coffee as long as it is "real" coffee. That means it has caffeine which is the reason I and I am sure many other people drink coffee! Many people that do not drink coffee still enjoy the smell of coffee brewing especially in the morning!
There are many legends of how we ended up with coffee. Some of the earliest evidence of drinking coffee or knowing about the coffee tree appears in the middle of the 15th century in the Sufi monasteries around Mokha Yemen. The monks roasted coffee seeds and brewed coffee like we do today. Yemeni traders brought coffee seeds back to their homeland from Ethiopia and began growing the trees. Coffee spread to Italy and the rest of Europe, Indonesia and the Americas.
More than 50 countries around the world grow coffee. Brazil is the largest coffee producer in the world with Colombia a close second. Many people are really into the "fancy" types of coffee. I guess I am a simple guy, it does not matter to me if its instant, made with a coffer maker at the studio or from the coffee shop!
