Tuesday night after posting a story on this website about the girls basketball game I broadcast I wrote a poem for my birthday entitled "My Birthday Wish."

After writing the poem I stuffed my slow cooker with carrots, large potatoes, onions and a beef roast.  My birthday lunch and dinner.  It was very tasty.  The best invention ever is the slow cooker also known as a crock-pot.

A copy of the poem is below.  I hope you enjoy it.

Merry Christmas everyone and Happy New Year to you from me and all of us at KDHL/POWER 96, KFRO/Kat Kountry 105.

MY BIRTHDAY WISH

I THOUGHT I’D SHARE WITH YOU MY BIRTHDAY WISH
IT IS NOT FOR A NEW BIKE, OR FULL COURT SWISH

MY BIRTHDAY DESIRE IS A SIMPLE THING
IT’S NOT FOR MONEY OR LEARNING A NEW WAY TO SWING

I WISH FOR A WORLD WHERE EVERYONE LIVES
NO CONQUERING OF COUNTRIES, EVERYONE GIVES

WHERE VIOLENCE DOES NOT EXIST
BOY WOULD THAT PROVIDE A NEWS TWIST

NOBODY WOULD SPRAY BULLETS INTO CROWDS IN HOPES OF KILLING MANY
THAT WORLD WOULD BE WORTH PLENTY

TODAY I AWAKENED TO THE START OF MY 63RD YEAR
I DO MISS BEING YOUNGER, BUT I DIDN’T SHED A TEAR

IT WOULDN’T DO ANY GOOD BECAUSE I CAN’T GO BACK
I WOULD LOVE TO AND CHANGE MY LIFE TRACK

I’VE MISSED OUT ON MANY EXPERIENCES IN THIS LIFE JOURNEY
HOLDING A LITTLE PIECE OF ME IN MY ARMS IN A HOSPITAL GURNEY

WATCHING THE LITTLE GUY OR GAL TAKE THEIR FIRST STEPS IN LIFE
THEIR FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, GRADUATION, BECOMING A HUSBAND OR WIFE

THOSE ARE THE EVENTS THAT MARK THE PASSAGE OF TIME
ENJOYING GRANDKIDS, MAN COULD I WRITE A RHYME

ABOUT THE FIRST TIME THE LITTLE GUY OR GAL SQUEEZED MY HAND
THE WONDER IN THEIR EYES AT THE SIGHT OF SNOW OR SAND

IN THE BIBLE JESUS TALKS ABOUT LIVING IN THE HERE AND NOW
WHEN YOU DO YOU EXPERIENCE EVERY WOW

IF YOU LIVE IN THE FUTURE OR THE PAST
YOU MISS A LOT BECAUSE THE PRESENT DOESN’T LAST

IT’S GONE WITH THE BLINK OF AN EYE BY GOD’S DESIGN
BUT EACH MOMENT IS IMPORTANT, IT AGES US LIKE FINE WINE

ALL THOSE MOMENTS CARVED THE GRAND CANYON AND MORE
EVERY MILLISECOND GOD IMPROVES NATURE’S MUSICAL SCORE

THOSE SEEMINGLY MUNDANE MOMENTS DOING ROUTINE THINGS
ARE WHAT MAKES THE TMES BETTER WHEN OUR HEART SINGS

A HUG, A SMILE, SIMPLY OPENING A DOOR FOR SOMEONE
MAKING A DELICIOUS MEAL AFTER THE CHORES ARE DONE

TODAY I TURN 63
IT’S SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY THIS IS WHERE I THOUGHT I’D NEVER BE

I’VE GOT SOME ARTHRITIS AND DON’T MOVE QUITE AS FAST
MOST OF MY HAIR IS GONE BUT I DON’T CARE I’VE HAD A BLAST

I HOPE GOD GRANTS ME ANOTHER DECADE OR SO
I KNOW I’M SUPPOSED TO BE READY TO GO

ANYTIME GOD SOUNDS THE TRUMPET TO BRING ME HOME
I DON’T THINK THERE, ANYONE WILL NEED A COMB

I’LL SEE MOM, DAD, A CHILDHOOD FRIEND WHO DIED AT AGE 21
PASTOR CRAIG FROM MY CHURCH AND I, WILL HAVE SOME FUN

BOTH GRANDFATHERS WHOM I NEVER MET
YOU THINK THEY WILL KNOW ME IF HEAVEN IS WHERE I GET

I’M 63 TODAY BUT IT FEELS NO DIFFERENT THAN 62
THERE MIGHT BE AN EXTRA WRINKLE OR TWO

This ties in perfectly with my birthday poem.

LOOK: See what Christmas was like the year you were born
