Monday Starts MnDOT’s Spring Burning Season

In addition to all of the new orange cones we will be seeing beginning Monday (April 30) morning we can add smoke to the driving equation. MnDOT in a release yesterday stated that motorists in southeastern Minnesota may see smoke from prescribed burns beginning Monday. There will be six different locations that weather permitting will see the prescribed burns this spring. 

The sites that will see the prescribed burns are:

• I-90 near Eyota
• Highway 52 near Harmony
• Highway 218 near Blooming Prairie
• Highway 56 near LeRoy
• I-35 North of Albert Lea
• Steele County south of Owatonna

The release stated that MnDOT does these burns for 'optimal vegetation health'.The burns also keep the cost of maintaining these areas down by not having to be mowed for a period of time after being burned.
