MnDOT ‘Team Plow’ Video Shows How Minnesota Tackles Winter

Sure, we're in the middle of the snowiest February ever, but that doesn't bother us hearty Minnesotans, does it? It sure doesn't bother MnDOT's snowplow drivers and this video that shows how they keep our highways clear!

MnDOT has a team of more than 1,800 snowplow drivers that keep over 30,500 miles of state highways and interstates snow-free during the winter. They get behind the wheel of 840 plows, maintained at 150 truck stations across the Land of 10,000 (Snowy) Lakes.

And when the snow falls, this dedicated team gets to work and keeps at it round the clock until all those roads and highways are cleared of all that white stuff. One of the techniques they use is something called the 'team plow,' where five different plows head down one side of the highway, in a staggered pattern, to get all the snow off the highway in one pass.

MnDOT posted a video of how this technique worked earlier this week along I-694 in Oakdale. It's pretty cool to see! And thanks, snowplow drivers (both MnDOT and our local city operators) who work non-stop during a winter storm to keep our highways and roads clear!
