The Faribault Falcons boys hockey team traveled to Albert Lea for a quarterfinal round Section 1A Tournament game and lost 4-1 Thursday night.  It was a 1-1 game going into the final period when the Tigers pulled away with goals 19 seconds apart.  The Falcons were doing what Head Coach Dean Weasler said they needed to do to win.  Namely staying out of the penalty box.

Meanwhile Faribault could not score on the Basher's power play.  When you need a power meal go to Basher's.  Sign up for volleyball begins March 1.  The Falcons outshot Albert Lea to start the game 7-3 before a Albert Lea roughing penalty put Faribault on the Bashers power play.  The Falcons had no shots on goal and had just one more shot on goal the rest of the period.  The Tigers were the #3 seed and Falcons #6 seed in the section.

Faribault had 8 shots and Albert Lea 6 in the first period but the Tigers had a 1-0 lead at the Star Trophy and Apparel intermission thanks to an unassisted junior Cully Larson goal at 13:29.  Falcons freshman Grady Goodwin evened the game with a slap shot from the blue line at 5:38 of the second period.  It was his 5th goal of the season.

At 9:24 Albert Lea junior Owen Zelenak was whistled for boarding so the Falcons would go on a 5:00 minute power play that again did not look very much like a Bashers power play.  Faribault had just a couple shots on goal during that time.  The second period finished with Albert Lea taking 18 shots and Faribault 12 on goal and a 1-1 score.

The Falcons were on the Bahers power play again 5:09 into the third period and didn't score.  At 8:01 sophomore Blake Ulve scored with assists to sophomore Caden Severtson and Larson.  Nineteen seconds later senior Carson Goodell scored with an assist by senior Cole Wentzel.

11:09 of the final period Goodell scored another goal assisted by Larson and Wentzel.  The Tigers outshot the Falcons 13-9 in the period.  Total shots on goal were Albert Lea 37 and Faribault 29.

Junior Spencer Ell was in net for Faribault and had 33 saves.  Senior Jaxon Heilman got the win for Albert Lea with 28 saves.

Faribault finished their season 12-11-1.  Seniors Daniel Drevlow and Owen Williamson were our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the game.
