The Minnesota Legislature in the last session passed a bill providing drought relief for Minnesota Livestock and specialty crop producers that incurred additional expenses due to last summers drought. The additional expenses must be incurred between June 1, 2021 and May 23, 2022. Farms also must be in a county that was designated as a natural disaster area after July 13, 2021 and before January 1, 2022.

The application window will open in mid-June and be open for 10 to 12 days. Each farm could apply for up to $7,500 in reimbursement for additional expenses caused by the drought. "We encourage farmers and producers to collect and organize needed documents and records now, so they are ready to apply when the application window opens," said Minnesota Department of Agriculture Commissioner Thom Peterson.

Go to the Minnesota Department of Agriculture's website for more information on what expenses are illegible and what documentation will be needed. The application window will be open only a few days so it is important that farmers have everything organized and ready!
