MN High School Will March in Washington DC 4th of July Parade!
Marching in the Washington DC 4th of July Parade is a HUGE deal. And this year, a high school marching band less than an hour away will be making Minnesota proud! Who will march? The Henry Sibley H.S. Marching Band in Mendota Heights!
How do you get to be in the Nation's July 4th party? In this case, Governor Mark Dayton and Senator Amy Klobuchar nominated 'em! The band director is Amy Powers, and in the Pioneer Press she said,
“It’s even more of an accomplishment considering that our band has only 58 members and competes against others with 100 or more, which is extremely challenging and requires so much extra effort.”
High school marching bands are used to crowds, but about 700,000 people attend the entire day of celebration each year (source). Now that's an audience!
What can they expect to see at the celebration? Take a look at some past Washington DC 4th of July celebrations...
PS - Our friends to the East have two bands representing Wisconsin.
• Hortonville H.S. Band, Hortonville, WI
• Seymour Thunder Marching Band, Seymour, WI
You know what this means, don't you? It takes two Wisconsin marching bands to come close to the awesomeness of one Minnesota marching band! ((TRASH TALK, WHOAAA!))
