As if there has not been enough disruption along the I-35W corridor there is more coming this weekend. Some of it long term again.

MnDOT says it begins with a weekend closure of Interstate 35W from Interstate 94 to Highway 62 in Minneapolis. Crews are going to be demolishing the 24th Street pedestrian bridge. Once the new bridge opens in the fall of 2021, MnDOT says it will be handicap accessible. There will be access to the southbound lanes between 46th Street and Highway 62. Ramps along the interstate will begin closing tonight around 9. The detour takes motorists to I-94, I-394, Highway 100, and Highway 62.

But wait, there's more.  There is going to be another long term ramp closure. I-35W southbound to 35th Street closes at 10 p.m. and won't reopen until the fall of 2020. The detour takes motorists to the ramp to 46th Street.

And there is still more. Starting Monday morning, there will be a new configuration for you along interstates 35W and 94 in Minneapolis. I-35W northbound will be reduced to three lanes from 43rd Street to 31st Street.  Two lanes for general traffic and one lane for MnPASS users. From 31st Street to I-94, there will three lanes open to everyone. Southbound will be reduced to two lanes for all traffic from I-94 to 43rd Street. The lane closures will stay in place until the fall of 2021.

I-94 westbound will be reduced to two lanes near I-35W, between Chicago Avenue and Nicollet Avenue, for four months. As part of ther I-35 to crosstown project. Numerous bridges are getting repaired or being replaced, another MnPASS lane is being added to the southbound side of the interstate, crews are constructing a new transit station near Lake Street, and more to come with this as well.

Happy commuting.
