A Southern Minnesota business owner recently released a press release to media in Albert Lea about their intent to sue the city attorney, state officials, judges, and the Governor for what were deemed by the business owner as damages amounting in excess of 10s of millions of dollars.

The lawsuits were recently announced via a news release from Lisa Hanson, owner of The Interchange Wine and Coffee Bistro in Albert Lea, stated that Albert Lea's City Attorney Kelly Martinez "personal and overzealous prosecution against Hanson to ‘teach Lisa Hanson a lesson about who has the power in the city of Albert Lea.’”

Hanson had previously been charged in Freeborn County court in December and January with 6 counts of violating any emergency powers order or rule on December 16, and 2 additional counts of violating any emergency powers order or rule, and a single charge of "Public Nuisance-Annoy/Injure/Endanger Safety" according to online court records.

Hanson also stated in one of the lawsuits against Martinez that Martinez "put me and my family in harm’s way by directing the initiation of an EMERGENCY SIGNAL upon a fictitious emergency"

Freeborn County Judges were not spared from Hanson's stated litigation, as all three judges in Freeborn County were named in some of the other suits, with damages being sought for over $2.5 million each.

Below are the copies of the lawsuits that were filed in February of 2021 against various entities in Albert Lea, Freeborn County, and Minnesota.
