Minnesota Man Puts up Christmas Lights Around Senior Home in Honor of Late Wife
Minnesota man, Darwin Bonn, is a self-proclaimed 'humbug'. The only problem was that he fell in love with and married someone who loved Christmas, his wife Rosie Bonn. They were married for 58-years. Sadly, Rosie passed away ten years ago, but Darwin is keeping her love of Christmas alive this year.
He told KARE 11 that every year in October Rosie would tell him to get the Christmas lights hung on the house. Then November would come, he still hadn't put the lights up and she would hound him again. Well, this year he made sure to get Christmas lights up on time at his senior home, Chateau Waters in Sartell, in honor of Rosie.
Every patio door and balcony at Chateau Waters is decorated with Christmas lights thanks to 88-year-old Darwin. He didn't get up there and decorate himself, he paid for the lights are the employees hung the lights for him.
The residents and employees love the decorations. Darwin has gotten many thank you letters from fellow residents thanking him for the beautiful lights. One resident, Mary Torborg, told KARE 11 “'I hate to pull the blind shut, because it’s so pretty.'"
While talking to KARE 11 and looking at the lights he had a hand in getting up, Darwin looked to the sky and said, “'See babe, it’s done. I took 60 years, but I finally got it done on time.'”
