Minnesota is the Second Most Charitable State in the Country
The holiday season is typically when people give the most, so it is definitely fitting that a new study was released from WalletHub ranking just how charitable each state is. Turns out Minnesota is one of the most charitable states coming in at number two! So how did we get this ranking, what did WalletHub use to determine the order, and who beat us out?
In order to rank each states' charitability, WalletHub looked at 19 different "key indicators" including things like "the volunteer rate", "the share of income donated", and "the share of sheltered homeless." Despite the pandemic, WalletHub says that across the country people were still very giving. They write that in the first 4 months of 2020 "donor grantmaking was up 16%".
So Minnesota is the second most charitable! We were number three in the 'Volunteer & Service' Rank and number four in the 'Charitable Giving' Rank. That's awesome! But which state beat us out? Utah beat us, coming in as the most charitable state in the country.
