Market Facilitation Program Deadline is Today
Yes, Louise reminded me last evening that Today is Valentines Day! I guess that was a hint? Today February 14, 2019 is also the deadline to sign up for the Market Facilitation Program. This was a USDA program designed to make direct payments to farmers who were caught in the crossfire of the trade war with China.
Farmers who produced soybeans, corn, cotton, wheat, milk, hogs and a couple other minor crops can sign up at their local Farm Service Agency office for the program payments. Talking with the Farm Service Agency office the vast majority of farmers have already signed up for the MFP payments. Farm Service Agency staff even went through their list of farmers and sent our postcards letting them know about the program.
So, if you have not signed up yet go to your Farm Service Agency office today. It only takes a few minutes. All you do is tell them what your production was. It is a self-certification program. However, keep your production records because you could be spot checked!
