Updated 9/14 9:30 a.m.:  Byron, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office released more information about the fall that occurred near Byron Tuesday morning that sent a man to St. Mary's Hospital.

Captain James Schueller says a deputy responded to the reported fall shortly before 11 a.m. in the 2400 block of County Rd. 25. The preliminary investigation indicates the 28-year-old victim from Fredericksburg, IA was drilling into the side of a quarry wall 40 feet above the ground when he fell into a five-foot-tall pile of rocks.

Schueller said the worker appeared to have a six-inch cut on the back of his head, a broken leg, swollen shut left eye and other injuries that indicated damage to the man’s skull. None of the other workers say the fall, but Schueller says investigators believe the man fell head-first. 

Schueller said the man was conscious but not responsive while he was being treated by emergency personnel. The man went into surgery once he was brought to a hospital. His name has not yet been released.

Previous Version: The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office is investigating an apparent accident that occurred this morning at a quarry near Byron and sent a man to St. Marys Hospital.

Very little information is currently available, but Sheriff's Captain James Schueller says preliminary reports indicate a man fell from approximately 40 feet. The victim was conscious when first responders arrived at the scene but he was suffering from head and multiple other injuries. He was transported by ambulance.

The incident was reported around 11 AM at a quarry located along Olmsted County Road 25 and 190th Avenue Southwest about 3 miles south of Byron. The name of the injured person and information about the extent of his injuries are not yet available.
