With the Memorial Day weekend upon us, we're now poised on the edge of another summer filled with fun festivals, car shows, the area fairs and more. But the festival that really gets the ball rolling for a summer of fun activities is the Morristown Dam Days Celebration, which is held on the first weekend after Memorial Day each year in the best little town by a dam site, Morristown, Minnesota.

This festival has moved the Dam Days Queen Coronation and Little Miss pageant to 5PM Friday at at the American Legion. It's a great way to start off the events for an evening that includes carnival rides, food stands and the beer garden. Of course, everyone looks forward to the Twilight Parade, which gets rolling at 7PM, and the crew of Power 96 and KDHL will be there, in our station vehicle, tossing out candy to the kids. My advice, again this year, is to bring plenty of grocery bags because they usually make quite a haul and they’re going to need someplace to put all those treats. Double up those bags for extra strength. Friday night the band Radioactive gets things rockin' in the beer garden under the Big Top Tent. You have to be 21 and have Dam Days button to get in.

Saturday is jam-packed with fun events including a kids fishing contest, a co-ed volleyball tournament, farmers market, a medallion hunt, a car show, demonstrations, RC demo derby, kiddie tractor pull and my favorite, an all-you-can-eat pork chop and fish feed. Smokescreen will get you out and dancing under the Big Top Tent as they wrap up the night in the beer garden.

Sunday offers up an all-you-can-eat brunch breakfast, art show, demonstrations, kiddie parade and games, a BBQ contest and more. Check out the Morristown Dam Days Celebration Facebook page for more info.
