Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Litomysl invites everyone to their 48th Annual Summer Festival this Sunday, July 28, 2019.  We stopped by Wednesday afternoon to visit with the Kubiceks about the annual event.

Rose Ann Kubicek and husband Bruce met at the church and are celebrating 51 years of marriage this year.  The charm of the event in part is it's location.  The country church is in the middle of the country with fields of corn, soybeans and hay around.

Litomysl is Czech for "wistful thoughts."  Holy Trinity Church dates back to 1878 when settlers of the area built the first church of wood.  In 1941 they built the stone church that exists today and is believed to be one of the largest stone churches in the U.S.A.

The church was built from rocks from the fields in the area.  Over 600 loads of rocks were used.

Czech traditions like Buchty, a biscuit filled with prunes, poppy seed or apricots and polka music will be featured on the grounds of the church.

Everyone is invited to a Polka Mass at the air conditioned, handicapped accessible church located approximately 10 miles south of Owatonna.

There is a silent auction, lots of food, a used a bit sale, live pony rides, face painting, wagon rides just to mention a few of the activities.

The Czech Lites and Dan Stursa Band will entertain the crowd on a outdoor stage after the Polka Mass led by the Litomyslaneous Polka Group begins the festivities at 10:00 a.m.

By 11:00 a.m. the outdoor activities begin with many food booths.  If you are not an outdoor picnic person a meal will also be served in the church basement from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. that features a shaved ham or turkey sandwich, potato salad, baked beans and beverage with pie and the filled biscuits on the menu.

Over 300 dozen Buchty will sell out so purchase yours early.  A tractor pulling a tram assists people in getting to the grounds from the roads surrounding the church.
