[Listen] Five Weather Records In November 2020

Early every month I call Tom Hoverstad Scientist at the Southern Research and Outreach Center at Waseca (SROC) to talk about the weather in the previous month. Tom tracks the weather from their "official" weather reporting station. The weather in November was about as perfect as one could hope for to wrap up harvest and fall tillage. I did not realize it at the time (must have been too busy in the field) but we set five temperature records early in November.

Early in the month there were five days in a row with the high temperature at or above 70 degrees. The previous record for November was four days in a row above 70 degrees. In addition four of those days we set a record high temperature for the day. I am  pretty sure I would not have been happy about breaking the high temperature records in July but it sure was nice in November!

While not a record it was rare to see 7.5 inches of snow in October and only 1.5 inches in November. Since 1950 it has occurred only five times that we had more snow in October than November. Tom added he would not be surprised if another record would be set in December. We have never seen more snow in October than December. It is early in the month but remember we received 8.5 inches of snow in October which is which is well above the average snowfall in December.
