Mary Larson of rural Claremont and Gene Kispert of Owatonna are the Outstanding Senior Citizens for 2018, named by the Steele County Exchange Club with the assistance of the Steele County Free Fair. They will be honored on Thursday, August 16 at 11:30 am on the Fair Square Stage.

Larson has been a board member of the Owatonna School District Foundation since 1992, serving as secretary. She's involved with the Grandparents for Education group as an executive board member and in-school volunteer. Larson has worked with the Steele County Food Shelf since 2007 and has been a longtime supporter of the dairy industry in the county.

Kispert's volunteering includes the Meals of Wheels program, which he has worked with for 21 years. He spent many hours with the Heritage Halls Museum. Kispert has been a Post Chaplain for the Owatonna American Legion, presenting American flags to family members at military funerals. He also has coached softball for the last 15 years, teaching sportsmanship and teamwork to the local youth.
