The Kasson-Mantorville Komets who missed getting into the State Tournament last year by a loss to the Winona Winhawks and finished the year at 8-3, started their 2017 campaign on a high note with a win over the Cannon Falls Bombers on Friday night 40-24.

Matt Winkle returned at the QB spot and had 16 carries for 92 yards and 3 touchdowns. Dalton Head put in 75 yards and two touchdowns, and Robby Horsman had 74 yards and a TD.

The Bombers were under new head coach Dan Meyers who was an assistant last year. Junior Logan Hofstedt had a great game for Cannon Falls running for a game-high 131 yards on 14 carries and a 63-yard touchdown burst in the first quarter. That was right after Winkle had scored for the Komets in the first quarter. Hayden Strain had  11 carries, for  67 yards and Gage Hildebrandtput up 12 carries, 76 yards and a TD.  Mason Duden scored the last TD for the Bombers in the fourth.

It was a pretty clean opener with each team having only 4 penalties. Kasson-Mantorvillle  travels to LaCrescent next week and the Bombers host Chatfield.
