Kelly Clarkson Nearly Takes a Tumble Before Indy 500 [Watch]
One reason Kelly Clarkson's fans love her so much is the singer/personality's well-documented ability to not take things (including herself) too seriously. Latest case in point: Clarkson had the honors of singing the national anthem at Sunday's Indy 500 (May 26). However, things started off on the wrong foot...literally!
Video captured Clarkson tripping on the red carpet in her heels and long gown as she approached the podium to sing. Luckily, she caught herself quickly, narrowly avoiding what might have been a nasty fall. And Clarkson being Clarkson, she couldn't resist making her own comment on her klutziness, with a big dash of humor.
"Best part of my day is always revealing to people that might not know how utterly not cool I am," she replied to a fan who'd posted a clip of the near-disaster. "That damn crack was hidden by the carpet man!"
Clarkson. although likely a bit shook up, did not stumble whatsoever over the anthem. She also took time to defend her Voice protege Chevel Shepherd, who won Season 15 of the show and performed "God Bless America" at the Indy 500, against a rude comment from a viewer.
"Think about the fact that U signed in online & took the time 2 drag a 16 yr old girl," Clarkson chided the tweeter, who had mistakenly tagged her instead of Shepherd. (Yet another reason to love Clarkson, right?)
Clarkson, who has won two seasons of The Voice in a row, did not triumph in the most recent season which ended earlier this month. That honor went to newbie coach John Legend; however, she'll have another crack at things when she returns for Season 17 and competes against Legend, Blake Shelton, and Shelton's girlfriend Gwen Stefani who is replacing departing coach Adam Levine.
