Last week the right-hand lane on Highway 21/Lyndale Ave N. was closed for trail work. That work is now in place, as a bridge was dropped into place spanning the Cannon River as part of the Mill Towns Trail project. Once the project is completed the bridge will be apart of a segment that runs from 17th Street Northwest to the White Sands Trailhead Facility.

Last November ground was broken on the Mill Towns Trail, which once it is completed will connect the cities of Faribault, Northfield and Cannon Falls. It will also connect to the 41-mile Sakatah Singing Hills Trail where it enters the west side of Faribault and the Cannon Valley trail to the east, which takes travelers all the way to Red Wing.

The current portion of the project is expected to be open to the public later this summer according to a November press release.

According to the Faribault Parks and Recreation page, Faribault has over 8 miles of paved trails within the city limits.
