RICE COUNTY FRIEND OF 4-H

Thank You to the Rice County 4-H for honoring KDHL Radio with the 2019-20 Friend of 4-H award! Their Family Banquet was held Sunday afternoon to honor Rice County Members and Leaders. Normally it is actually a banquet with a meal served but it was a bit different this year because of the pandemic. There was no meal and it was going to be 100 percent virtual. However, with the beautiful weather (except for excessive wind) the program was held in the grandstand on the Rice County Fairgrounds.

There was plenty of room to social distance in the grandstand and it was nice to be outside to enjoy the likely last really warm day until next spring. I was asked to accept the award for KDHL. Before the program Rice County 4-H members and parents played bingo, both in person and virtually. It was nice to see many 4-H members receive recognition at the program including those graduating from 4-H.

However, graduating from 4-H in many cases does not mean they are done with 4-H. After graduation they are called Adult Leaders or volunteers and many times for a lifetime! Ellie Sirek has been an Adult Leader for 46 years, DuWayne Hohrman 39 years, Mary Bussert 30, Bridget Pieper 29, William Bussers, Bill Sirek and Guy Lawerence 27, Rene Koester and Pam Koester 26, Debra and Jim Purferst 23, Nathan Bussart, Tara Kaisershot and Troy Walters 20 years.
