Kayaker Attempting to Kayak the Entire Mississippi River Needs Rescuing in Northern Minnesota
A kayaker was attempting to kayak from the start of the Mississippi River, Lake Itasca, all the way down to Louisiana. That sounds like a really cool (and difficult) adventure! Except there was one problem, the kayaker had packed everything except a life jacket and needed rescuing before even getting out of Northern Minnesota.
The Minnesota DNR was contacted about a kayaker on Lake Winnibigoshish that was in trouble and needed to be rescued due to the wind and huge waves. Mark Mathy is a DNR conservation officer who wrote the report about the incident. Bring Me the News says that Mark notes that the kayaker did not bring a life jacket and "'if the waves would have overtaken the kayak'" things would have been much different.
After the kayaker was helped and brought to safety they did receive a citation from the Minnesota DNR because they did not have a life jacket with them.
Like I said earlier, I think this would be a very cool adventure to attempt, to kayak the entire Mississippi River, but it would be super difficult I'm sure and you definitely need a life jacket with you! I also can't imagine trying to kayak this past weekend. It was so cold and with all the freeze warnings that we had, that couldn't have been a good time.
