The Kasson-Mantorville KoMets used aggressive serving and an awesome block to breeze past the Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights in Kasson tonight.  Scores were 25-18, 25-11, 25-20.

The Knights were rated #2 in the latest Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association rankings in Class A.  The KoMets got the #5 ranking in Class AA.  Frankly Kenyon-Wanamingo did not look like one of the state's best teams.  Much of the credit goes to Kasson-Mantorville.

The senior dominated Knights were ahead 13-10 in the first set when KoMets sophomore libero Cate Wanous served 9 straight points to give her team a lead they would not relinquish.  It was an effective game plan by young Kasson-Mantorville executed to perfection.

Aggressive serves to make Kenyon-Wanamingo play out of system and keep them from getting the ball to their top hitters Ally Peterson and Julianna Boyum.  Peterson had one kill in the first set, 3 in the second set before finishing with 10 on the night by my unofficial count.  I had Boyum with 5 kills.

The KoMets block was as good as their aggressive serving but there were also some tips or pushes of the ball by the Knights into those blocks.  Kasson-Mantorville has two seniors on their team.  Kenyon-Wanamingo has seven seniors.

Our Held Bus Service Knights of the match were 5'10 Leah Berg, sophomore right side hitter with probably the most consistent night at the net.  I had her with 4 kills and just a couple hitting errors.  The other Held Bus Knight of the match was senior setter Madi Luebke who executed a couple dump kills and tallied an ace serve in the match.

Kasson-Mantorville junior middle hitter Emilee Terry had 3 kills, 1 hitting error in the first set.  5 kills, 0 hitting errors in the second set and 1 kill two hitting errors in the third for a total of 9 kills, 3 hitting errors.  These again are my unofficial statistics.

Junior KoMet Mya Suess concentrated on the block and also totaled 9 kills.

The match fittingly ended for Kasson-Mantorville with a ace serve by sophomore setter Maddie Converse putting an exclamation point on a convincing win over Kenyon-Wanamingo.
