Drug Overdose Ruled Out as Cause of Rochester Labor Day Weekend Deaths

Rochester, MN (RochesterNow)- The Rochester Police Department has released an update regarding the investigation into two deaths that happened during the Labor Day Weekend.

Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson previously stated the officers responded to numerous drug overdoses during the holiday weekend. 

Two of the overdose calls resulted in the discovery of two deceased people. Police described them as a 26-year-old man from Austin and a 33-year-old Rochester woman, were found deceased.

Officers rendered aid to the other victims, who appeared to have suffered suspected fentanyl-related overdoses, police said.

Investigation Determines Overdose Did Not Cause Rochester Labor Day Weekend Deaths

On Thursday, Grayson indicated that the investigation has determined that neither death was caused by a drug overdose. 

Grayson says the death investigations remain ongoing and will be closed if a determination is made the criminal activity did not cause them. Final autopsy results are still pending.

In a statement announcing the drug overdoses, the Rochester Police Department asked anyone who may have knowledge of the suspected overdoses or the distribution of illegal drugs to contact the Narcotics Tip Line at 507-328-6760. Police say tipsters can remain anonymous. 

The Rochester Police Department also provides a cost-free service that offers paths to treatment and recovery for those struggling with drug addiction called the Police Assisted Recovery Program.
