Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The man arrested last night in connection with several school lockdowns in southeastern Minnesota is no longer in custody.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 55-year-old Daniel James Lewison last night. He had previously been described as a “person of interest” after a video he posted on social media caused enough concern to warrant soft lockdowns at schools in the Byron, Kasson-Mantorville, Triton, and Hayfield school districts.
Byron, Kasson-Mantorville, Triton, and Hayfield Schools Affected
Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson said the Facebook post featured Lewison standing in front of a large bear statue at the entrance to Byron High School. The video, apparently recorded Tuesday, included statements authorities considered threatening toward a number of current and former judges, attorneys, and law enforcement officers.
The sheriff said it did not appear those individuals faced an imminent threat, but everyone involved was contacted and made aware of the situation. Sheriff Torgerson also emphasized that Lewison’s “issue is not with the school.”
County Attorney Confirms Release Without Charges
Following his arrest, Lewison was booked into the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center on suspicion of felony threats of violence, harassment, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
The Olmsted County Attorney’s Office confirmed today that Lewison is being released from custody without charges, pending further investigation.
