Registration Now Open For Urban Bow Hunting Season in Rochester
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The City of Rochester will conduct another controlled archery hunt this fall to reduce the number of deer in the city.
The Rochester Archery Club will be assisting the Parks and Recreation Department by running the registration process and teaming up with city staff to implement safety procedures.
Paul Widman, Director of Parks and Recreation shares “Rochester is one of many communities in Minnesota conducting an annual archery hunt as part of an overall wildlife management strategy. Our partnership with the Rochester Archery Club ensures that the hunters are qualified and that best practices are engaged to promote safety during the hunt.”
The application process for the special hunting season is now open and will run through August 7. City officials say participating hunters will be required to successfully complete Minnesota Bowl Hunter Education and pass a proficiency test coordinated by the Archery Club.
The special bow hunting season will run from September 16 through December 31 in the following parks and city-owned properties.

- Essex Park
- Foster Arend
- Gamehaven
- Hadley Creek Golf Course
- Indian Heights Park
- McQuillan
- Northern Heights
- Willow Creek Reservoir
- South Zumbro Trail natural areas 16th Street SW to Mayowood Road
- North Zumbro natural areas from Recreation Center to 37th Street NW
The parks and trails will remain open, but officials say some areas within parks will be marked as off-limits to non-hunters.
