Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Bridge projects will force the closure of two major highways in southeastern Minnesota on Tuesday.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says construction crews will be setting eight bridge beams over Highway 52 as part of the ongoing project to improve and expand the Highway 52/I-90 interchange. The beams will be installed over Highway 52 and will require closing the southbound lanes of the highway between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

A news release concerning the project says northbound Highway 52 will remain open, and motorists will continue to be able to exit westbound I-90 to head north on Highway 52. I-90 will remain open in both directions.

Southbound traffic on Highway 52 will be detoured on Highway 63 south to I-90 east at Stewartville. Motorists traveling to locations farther south on Highway 52 will be directed to the I-90 exit at Stewartville and directed south on Olmsted County Road 7 back to Highway 52 just north of Chatfield.

MnDOT will also be shutting down I-90 in Austin starting at 8 p.m. on Tuesday and continuing through 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

The temporary closure is needed to allow construction crews to pour the concrete for the bridge deck over the freeway at 4th Street Northwest in Austin. The work is expected to be completed in one night.
