I got some sad news last night as the Minnesota Street Rod Association posted online that Back to the 50's weekend for 2021 wouldn't be happening. The car show at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds that draws in large crowds during the month of June was not going to be held due to what the group stated in a press release as "several insurmountable restrictions put in place by the Governor’s executive orders and the Minnesota Department of Health’s guidelines to those executive orders."

The announcement marked the 2nd year in a row that the car show wasn't going to be taking place. The 47th Annual Back to the 50's Weekend will now be pushed forward on the calendar to the weekend of June 17-19 2022.

The post to social media that accompanied the press release stated that due to the posted guidelines in the social media post "there is no way we can have our event this year. With only 10,000 people allowed that would not even let in half of the registered participants. If you figure two people per car, plus spectators, the allowed attendance would need to be closer to 40,000. Also, MSRA and our volunteers would be tasked with enforcing the guidelines and we do not feel that is appropriate to ask of our volunteers."

Governor Walz has announced that another easing of restrictions put in place due to COVID-19 may be coming as soon as next week in Minnesota. No date for the announcement has been set.
