Interstate 35 motorists will encounter lane closures and possible traffic backups south of Faribault starting on Monday, August 8, while crews complete a bridge painting project, according to MnDOT.

They are going to be working on the bridge that takes Rice County Road 48 traffic from Faribault to southbound I-35. It is also next to northbound I-35 exit 55. Single-lane closures in both directions will alternate as the crews paint the bridge. It is scheduled to be completed August 18, weather permitting.

Because of the traffic volumes on I-35, backups are likely, especially on the weekends. Motorists can decrease the backup dangers and move more efficiently by using both lanes of traffic while approaching the merge. You can go to dot.state.mn.us/zippermerge to find out more.

Motorists are urged to be attentive, drive with caution, and slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones. Get traffic information at 511mn.org or get the free smartphone app at Google play or the App Store.
